Aldermaston Wharf
Aldermaston Wharf to Woolhampton canalside walk or bike ride in collab with Julia Morrison Photography - UK
Only 30 minutes from Wokingham, Aldermaston Wharf is a great base to start exploring the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal, either as a walk or as a family bike ride along the towpath.
You can park at The Kennet & Avon Trust Visitor Centre/tea rooms (approx postcode RG7 4JS) or at Aldermaston train station. Check opening times for the tea rooms in advance of visiting.
For a short walk for little legs (15 mins), you can follow the canal downriver towards Padworth lock and back.
For a longer walk, walk up river to The Rowbarge Pub at Woolhampton for a lunch by the canalside and back (approx 50-60 mins walk each way from Aldermaston Wharf). This varied and scenic route is especially lovely where the canal opens out into the Kennet River.
Start at the Aldermaston Wharf lock, heading towards Frouds Bridge Marina, crossing Frouds Lane (cut across on a slight diagonal to pick up the path again) and then continuing further downstream crossing a footbridge over the river (with ramps for bikes) before you eventually reach The Rowbarge pub. The footpaths are all shown on Google Maps.
