Geocaching in Wokingham
So, whenever I ask for ideas of FREE family activities, someone always pipes up with Geocaching
So what is Geocaching?
Geocashing claims to be the worlds largest game of hide & seek which to does sound quite exciting and perfect for kids aged 6+ who love a challenge!
Participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device to hide and seek containers called ‘geocaches’ at different locations all around the world.
There are millions of Geocaches in around 200 countries worldwide, it is enjoyed by adults and children and a great excuse to get outside an explore the area you are in whether it is urban or rural.
You can log onto the Geocaching website, put in your location and it brings up a list of Geocaches. I just typed in Wokingham and there are a whopping 718 Geocaches within a 5-mile radius!
To get started you can open a basic free account, and use the free app to search for Geocaches in your area or wherever you want to explore.
There is a Geocaching Association of Great Britain which has a very useful website with lots of information and useful tips too.
I have downloaded the app, so tomorrow we will be donning our welly boots and be off in search of Geocaches!
